Butterfly Plant Pokes
Project designed by Kathleen Alonzo

Materials:
canvas - Kreative Kanvas
36" long 3/8" dowels
16-gauge wire
glue sticks and glue gun
acrylic paint in black, gold, silver and copper
glaze or varnish
scissors
pliers
paintbrushes
sponge
Steps:
- Trace butterfly wings and body onto folded canvas and cut out.
- Apply glue outlines, dots, stripes and circles to the surface of butterfly
wings and body in a free form and loose manner. These are creative additions
so there are no mistakes! Allow glue to dry.
- Generously paint both sides of butterfly with copper paint. Paint dowel to
match the color of the butterfly.
- Lightly sponge black paint over the wings and body of the butterfly using
a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
- Using a small amount of paint at a time, brush gold, silver, then copper
paint over all Kanvas surface. Glue lines and heavily textured spots will pick
up more paint. Allow the tips of the brush to float over surface to show more
details and highlights.
- Cut an 18" long piece of wire for small butterfly antenna. Bend wire in
half and use needle nose pliers to curl each end. Glue center of wire to back
of butterfly head. Glue dowel to back of butterfly body and glue the body to
center front of wings.
- Allow glue to dry then coat with glaze or varnish to further weatherproof.
Position the finished plant poke in the garden or flower bed for outside
decor.
