Sewing Machine Punched Lampshade Cover

Materials:

Emagination Crafts, Inc. pop-up paper lampshade cover
Emagination Crafts, Inc. wave scissors
plain white lampshade (approx. 12" across the bottom, 3" across the top, 8" tall)
sewing machine

Steps:

1. Depending on the sewing machine, select a stitch design similar to the serpentine stitch (figure A). Elongate the stitch and sew down the center of each of the sections indicated between the folds on the pop-up lampshade cover (figure B).

2. Using an elongated basting stitch, sew down the scored line between each of the sections of the shade cover.

3. Trim the bottom of the lampshade cover with wave scissors.

4. Glue the lampshade cover together (figure C) and it place on top of a plain white lampshade.
 

Butterfly Lampshade Cover

Materials:

Emagination Crafts, Inc. pop-up paper lampshade cover
butterfly stamp
Posh Impressions stem with leaves stamp #Z249C (discontinued)
assorted accent stem and swirl stamps
Opalescent embossing powder
moss green Crystal pigment ink pad
Crystal embossing ink pad
1/8" and 1/4" Emagination Crafts circle punches
mat knife
heat gun
1 yard of 1/4" picot satin ribbon
scrap paper

Steps:

1. Apply embossing ink to the butterfly stamp and stamp it on a fold of lampshade cover 1/2 inch up from bottom edge (figure D). Continue stamping every other fold. Sprinkle on embossing powder, remove excess powder and apply heat to emboss.

2. Stamp an extra butterfly on a scrap piece of paper and cut it out to use as a mask when adding the remaining stamps.

3. Mask one of the stamped butterflies. Repeatedly stamp the stem stamp randomly onto the bottom two-thirds of the lampshade (figure E). Apply embossing powder onto the stamped area. Remove excess powder and the mask. Add heat to melt the embossing powder. Repeat across the bottom two-thirds of the lampshade cover.

4. Stamp one stem and leaf design on the center of each section at the top of the lampshade cover and emboss (figure F). Add several short stems in the remaining area. Using the stem and leaf stamp, add more vines onto the bottom two-thirds of the lampshade cover. Do not add embossing powder. Let dry.

5. Add 1/4- and 1/8-inch holes to the butterfly wings. Cut around the wings of each butterfly using a mat knife (figure G). Bend the wings up (figure H).

6. Punch a row of 1/4-inch holes about 2-1/2 inches down from the top of the lampshade cover, punching two holes in each section (figure I). Cut a piece of ribbon and weave it though the holes. Tie a bow at the center (figure J).
