Butterfly Headband

Materials:

headband - thin wire ones work well
small, colored paperclips
McGill large leaf punch
- Birch - 91004
- Maple - 91400
- Oak - 91700
- Long reach punch (2) (oak leaf 79300; maple 78700; Birch - 91004)
McGill butterfly punch
- 91800 giant
- 76008 jumbo
quick-grab glue for metal and glass
needle-nose and flat-nose pliers
embossing tool
empty, clean soda cans

Steps:

Cut the cans open. Begin by puncturing the top of the can with the bottom blade of open scissors or an awl. Turn the scissors so the top blade cuts perpendicular to the can. Cut off the top of the can, then cut down the can side, the round corner and the bottom. Cut away any burrs created by the process.
Unwind two paper clips into a straight line. Wind the wire around needle-nose pliers to create a swirl, then pull up. Place two swirls off center to the headband. Wrap bottom around wire headband or around bent combs of headband. Use a toothpick to place glue onto the area and to glue clip and leaves into place.
Punch three leaves and two butterflies from tin. Make leaf details using an embossing tool. Press from the back to create embossing. Flip the leaves over and use the embossing tool to outline the embossed details.
Wrap the end of a leaf around one paper-clip swirl. Dab with glue to secure. Glue butterfly onto a leaf. Place this leaf between the two paper-clip swirls. Glue second butterfly to third leaf. Wrap and glue third leaf to last swirl. Allow to dry.

Tips:

	Remove all burrs when cutting cans to avoid cuts.
	Don't wrap wire around too much of the headband or it will be uncomfortable to wear. Don't glob glue so it creates an uncomfortable bulge.
	Sometimes the colored side of the can makes the better choice for punching out images.
